Mind the gap

As a leader, your perspective of your effectiveness can differ from how others experience and perceive you.

The gap can be greater that you think or care to believe.

In December 2020, the Australian Institute of Management published the results of  research to determine the extent of ‘the gap’ between what leaders think and what team members know.

The results are concerning.

  • 34% gap in displaying honesty and integrity

  • 39% gap in displaying emotional intelligence

  • 42% gap in mentoring coaching and mentoring

As a leader, you have a choice to either ignore or dismiss ‘the gap’ and accept the inevitable consequences or commit to do all in your power to close ‘the gap’.

Should you choose to close ‘the gap’, I invite you start by reflecting on these questions:

  1. How may you be contributing to others not fully trusting you?

  2. How what you say or do may have an undesired impact on others?

  3. What could you do to enable others to learn and grow to become more of their best?

Your time to lead is now. The world needs you now.

Rise up in your quest to close the gap and be the leader others choose to follow.

Take care

Bernard
