The gift in opportunity

My best wishes to you for 2022 and may the year be all you would hope and wish it to be.

On Tuesday this week, I was invited to speak at a client’s APAC Regional annual kick-off conference on ‘growth mindset’.

I had 1 hour for the presentation – I find I takes a day to prepare for a 1-hour presentation and an hour to prepare for a day’s facilitation. The days preparation turned out to be a gift.

As I researched and read about Carol Dweck and others work on the topic, it wasn’t lost on me that things don’t happen to you, they happen for you.

As I worked through the distinctions between a fixed and a growth mindset, I observed, if I’m honest with myself, that I spend more time locked in a fixed mindset than I cared to believe.

To overcome my three fixed mindset triggers, I’ve committed to:

  1. When I doubt my abilities, I will focus on the effort and progress I am making towards achieving the goal.

  2. When I fear to fail, I will not be frozen by fear, but allow it to fuel my energy and attention to what is most important I do.

  3. When I find I compare myself to be less than others, I will remind myself I may ‘not yet’ be as good but have the potential to become as good.

I invite as you move through 2022, to reflect on what you could do to live and lead more from a growth mindset and access more of your greatness.

If your team would benefit from reflecting on the power of developing more of a growth mindset, please contact me and I’d love to discuss how we could make this happen.

Take care
Bernard
