Oh, to be humble

At a recent leadership workshop I facilitated, a participant asked, “I keep hearing about humble leaders, what does it mean to be a humble leader”?

Having thought about the question, I offered that humble leaders say three things, often:

  1. “I don’t know” – they say this, not out of ignorance, but intrigue.

  2. “What do you think” - they say this, not because they lack confidence but because they’re curious.

  3. “I need help” - they say this, not because they’re weak, but wise.

CHALLENGE

How humble a leader are you? At your next team meeting, find cause to ask these three questions. Then observe the impact of your humility and how much safer you make it for others to access more of their greatness.

May you flourish.
