Mastering the art of subtraction

We’re addicted to addition – we’re conditioned to think and talk about doing more, learning more, getting more and achieving more. This addiction comes at a price – we need only look at the current level of organisational burn-out, stress, and anxiety.

Imagine if we took as much pride in focusing on doing less, so to achieve more. These times call on us to master the art of subtraction.

I invite you to reflect on these four questions and master the art of subtraction:

1. What less bad work could I do, to do more great work?

2. What must I say no to, so I can say yes to?

3. What do I need to unlearn, to create space to learn?

4. What do I need to stop doing so I can start doing?

CHALLENGE

At your next team meeting, invite your team members to share their insights and responses to these four questions. Then observe how the focus, energy, and attention shifts and what results follow.

May you flourish.
