To teach is to do

Last week I facilitated two Masterclasses on, How to Lead in Uncertainty and during each I was asked the same question, “how can I teach others what you’ve taught me?”

In response I offered they reflect on the perspective that, ‘when you do the doing, others will learn’.

As a leader your highest level of service is to enable others to learn. So, here’s what to do:

  1.  As Mahatma Gandhi said, “be the change you wish to see in the world”. As a leader, be the change you wish to see in others.

  2. One way to facilitate learning is to teach but the best way to teach is to do, not tell.

  3. Little learning happens when you tell, more happens when you show, most happens when you support others to ‘do it’.

As a final point, when you ‘do’ others will learn. When others learn, your teaching is done.
