Being Different vs Being Better
As a leader, do you believe it’s more important to be different or to be better?
Being different for the sake of it, may not always be in your or other’s best interests. Rather, being better at doing what is familiar, could open a world of possibilities.
To differentiate yourself as a leader, focus less on trying to be different and more on trying to be better.
Here are three things you could do to be better at the familiar:
Be a better listener – rather than listen intending to respond, listen with the intent to understand
Be a better leader as coach – rather than provide the answers, ask better questions to help others access more of their knowing
Be better at being vulnerable – admit to not knowing, ask for help when you need it, and be open to learn from how others see things differently
To make a difference, try less to be different and more to be better.
